The naturally good expo is held annually and I went along to check-out the latest foods and products.
This years winner was clearly ‘edible bugs’, yep, you heard right.
Whilst this is not something I’ll be ordering, I was assured they’re high in protein, nutrient-dense and a sustainable food of the future.Crickets were the most popular insects I saw, apart from eating them dried (taste like chips – I’ve heard) you can buy them ground down as a flour, for baking. Just for the record, I did NOT taste test any of these insects, and I probably never will.
Other popular products were ‘hemp’, which came in many forms; seeds, oils, crackers, powders, etc. Hemp is high in protein and exceptionally high in ‘omega3’, often used in place of ‘chia seeds’.
